Visit the Auckland West coast black sand surf beach settlement of Muriwai and see the Gannet Colony. Try a range of award winning wines at Kumeu River Wines, Matua Wines or West Brook and take in the picturesque countryside. This morning or afternoon tour picks up from your inner city hotel and takes you out to the market garden and lifestyle areas of Kumeu , Huapai and Waimaulu. The name Huapai in Maori translates as “the place of excellent fruit” which isn’t surprising given the abundance of plums, blueberries, strawberries, apples and of course grapes grown in the region.
You’ll be taken through beautiful rolling sheep and cattle country out to Muriwai, a seaside enclave popular with surfers and famous for its black sand beaches. Here you can watch the gannets throughout the year courting, mating and rearing their young preparing them for the winter migration.
Enjoy a tasting from the outstanding selection of varietals & blends at Matua Valley Wines. Matua Valley Wines was the first wine company in New Zealand to produce Sauvignon Blanc in Waimauku. They also produce excellent Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Gris, as well as Cabernet blended reds, Syrah /Viognier and Pinot Noir
