The ancient art developed in Ayutthaya five centuries ago, and many of the techniques are still practiced today. Muay Thai is often called the 'art of the eight limbs' because the master kickboxers can make contact with their hands, shins, elbows and knees. For years, fighters competed with no safety gear, but nowadays they duke it out with gloves on.
You quickly realize those gloves are simply a formality as the fighters punch, jab and kick each other just a few feet away from your seat. Your knowledgeable guide helps you understand the match each step of the way.
