The Mt Wilson Mountain Bike Enduro Day is an incredible series of gravity fed mountain biking bliss in the San Gabriel Mountains near Mt Wilson California. Bring your buds, call your neighbors - get on a plane if you have to. Just make sure you are here to taste mile after mile of single track heaven. Most rides start around 5000' and end about 800'. You can expect almost 30 miles of gravity assisted riding. There is a LOT of downhill mountain biking going on. Don't wait, weekend seating is always limited. The Mt Wilson Mountain Bike Enduro Day is set up for the mountain biker who has ridden before and is looking for an alternative to the crowded and expensive mountain bike parks. Small pods of riders (5 or more) join forces and ride set trails together: Christian Camp to Chilao, Charlton Flats to Upper Big Tujunga Mountain Road and Red Box to Switzers. The last ride is from Eaton Saddle back to the original pick up area. Plan on 6+ hours of bike time. The routes are all single-track except on the last ride back to your car; where a fire road is available.

Typical itinerary:
  • 9:30 AM - arrive at the trail head
  • Kit up, waiver up and meet your driver
  • Bicycle safety checks
  • 10 AM - Board vehicle and depart for first drop-off
  • During ride up, your driver will provide safety brief and provide basic info on important landmarks and bail outs
  • 11 AM - 1st drop-in riding starts

Typical Trails (varies depending on season and rider's desires + ability)

Christian Camp to Visitor Center Road The first ride starts at Christian Camp and ends at the Chilao Visitor Center road - pavement to pavement It is a little over 3 miles. The trail is fast and flowy, around trees, roots and rocks. To keep it interesting Mother Nature punctuated the trails with a few ups - short ones - to encourage riders to keep their momentum up. The last section is very, switch-backy and rocky. Before you know it, your be on the pavement transitioning to the next segment.

Mt Hillyer to Visitor Center Road After a short sometimes steep climb / hike a bike arrive at the top of Mt Hillyer some 6,200 feet above sea level. Pace yourself the day is just getting started. Mt Hillyer trail makes its way through large sandstone rock via the most circuitous way possible.

Charlton Flats - Silver Moccasin to Upper Big Tujunga Canyon Road Riders plummet down over two miles of steep and sinuous single-track. Elevation loss is about 1200' in just under two miles. The first section is steep and bermy. As you make your way down the trail opens up and becomes loose - hang on and be mindful of the water breaks. Mother Nature works this trail in a rain storm.

Red Box to Switzers The world famous Gabrielino from Red Box to JPL is in all the mountain bike guide magazines and books as one of Mt Wilson's Classics. Due to the Station Fire of 2009, most of the Gabrielino is closed. Not all of the trail burned, however. We will ride one of it's sweetest sections from Red Box to Switzers. The top part of the trail is fast, flowy and in the shade of old-growth forest. It quickly opens into exposed trail full of baby head rocks and finishes up with tight single-track switchbacks and rolling trail into Switzers picnic area.

Eaton Saddle to the pick up area There are several trails to choose from the Eaton Saddle to the Gabrielino Trailhead. Mt Lowe East to the Merrills and Sunset is the most popular. 2N70 is the easiest and most direct way home. Keep in mind, by this point in the ride you have had a big day on the bike!
