Then head out of the city to the Historic Columbia River Highway, a National Historic Landmark that stretches east of Portland along the Columbia River and provides views of mountains, rivers, valleys and other scenic sights.
As you relax in your tour vehicle, enjoy the natural beauty while knowing it's just a taste of what's to come, starting with your first stop at the Crown Point Vista House, a stately building from 1916 that boasts some of the best views of the Columbia River Gorge. Then spend the next portion of your day trip visiting four waterfalls: Latourell Falls, Wahkeena Falls, Horsetail Falls and, the most famous, Multnomah Falls.
The second-highest year-round waterfall in the United States, iconic Multnomah Falls is fed by Larch Mountain’s underground springs. With your guide, walk to the much-photographed footbridge to see both tiers of the falls.
Continue east along the highway to Hood River, a quaint valley town located at the confluence of the Columbia and Hood rivers on the Columbia River Gorge.
