The ride takes place on the historic Anna’s Ranch behind the homestead of Anna Lindsey Perry-Fiske, an original Big Island cowgirl and local historical figure. After a brief introduction and safety orientation, you will be outfitted with an appropriately-sized, full-suspension, high-quality mountain bike and helmet. Upon meeting your local guide and Big Island expert, the tour will start with brief overview of the historic significance of Anna’s Ranch and its impact on the local economy. You guide will touch briefly on the evolution of ranching within the Hawaiian economy and its effect on the local environment over the years.
After the introduction, you will begin your tour. You and your group of up to 12 riders will begin your ride through vibrant green pasture, past tropical plants and over volcanic soil as you begin your climb past the Kohakohau stream up 1200 feet to your first snack spot. As you ascend, you will enjoy stunning views of Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa, and Hualalai. From the top, you can pause to appreciate the amazing scenery stretching out before you while relaxing to the sound of the gently flowing stream.
