Meet your guide and start an interesting stroll to discover the most distinctive places of Venice and finally the precious rooms of the Doge's Palace, where the history of the Venice Republic was made.
In St Mark’s Square you will get a complete overview of the main monuments and palaces overlooking the square, such as St Mark’s Cathedral, the Bell Tower, The Clock Tower, the Doge’s Palace and the Procuratie.
Then you will move to Santa Maria Formosa and hear tales and legends about this splendid church and the nearby square, and Campo Santi Giovanni and Paolo. This exciting tour will then take you to the most significant places of Venice, where history and myths are entwined, such as the site where Marco Polo’s house once stood and the exteriors of the Malibran Theatre, known as the most extravagant theatre in the whole of Venice.
While heading towards St Mark’s Square, you will visit the Mercerie, that is the main shopping street in Venice, where precious goods from faraway markets were once sold.
The second part of the itinerary focusses on the Doge’s Palace, a symbol of Venice which was for centuries the headquarters of its political power. Inside the Doge's Palace you will visit the Opera Museum, the precious Doge’s Apartments, the Institutional Chambers, the Arms Room and the Old Prisons. Finally, you will have the opportunity to cross the famous Bridge of Sighs, built in 1614 to join the Doge’s Palace to the New Prisons. Its curious name derives from the last sigh that convicts used to breathe before being locked up forever.
