While you’re in Dominica, don’t miss Morne Trois Pitons National Park, one of the island’s most popular attractions and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Encompassing 17,000 acres (6,880 hectares) in the southeast corner of the island, straight east of Roseau, the park is mountainous and jungle-clad, and boasts waterfalls, lakes and gorges. With a local guide, learn about the native vegetation and wildlife and explore its natural features, including Freshwater Lake, Titou Gorge and Emerald Pool. Your Morne Trois Pitons National Park day trip starts with pickup by minivan at your Roseau hotel followed by the 30-minute drive through the Roseau Valley to the park.

Your first destination inside the park is Freshwater Lake. With your guide, take a walk around the often-misty lake and learn a bit about the native plant and animal life. Then head to Titou Gorge via the mountain village of Laudat; when you arrive at the gorge, which translates to ‘little throat,’ enjoy 45 minutes of swimming (with a lifejacket) through the gorge to a small waterfall.

Next, take a break to enjoy a boxed lunch, and then head to one of the park’s most popular features, Emerald Pool, a scenic, one-hour drive through the dense rainforest. A natural pool formed at the base of a 40-foot (12-meter) waterfall, Emerald Pool boasts a secluded, lush setting perfect for a swim! Hang out here for a bit before making the drive back to your Roseau hotel, where your day trip ends.
