Your twilight adventure begins with an exploration of the US Capitol grounds. Then travel the Presidential Inauguration route. You’ll be reviewing the sites the next US President will see as he/she leads the 2017 Inaugural Parade down Pennsylvania Avenue.
Next stop: the White House. We’ll roam the area on the North Face of the White House including Lafayette Park (haunted by most accounts); the Treasury Building; the magnificent Eisenhower Executive Office Building; The Blair House and tiny St. John’s Parish Church, the Church of the Presidents. Expect peaceful protesters - always part of the White House scene.
Then we’re off to the World War II Memorial, where you’ll locate your home state's individual column marked with handsome, bronze wreaths. Walk the Martin Luther King Memorial positioned at the very edge of the Tidal Basin surrounded by cherry trees…there in the distance the Jefferson Memorial is reflected in the water - a postcard perfect photo.
Next stop: what do you see…off in the mists under the trees? It’s an entire larger- than-life statuary platoon from the Korean War era. Discover the message of this forgotten war expressed in their faces and body language. Savor the evening breeze off the Potomac as your group approaches the world famous Lincoln Memorial. You’ll soon be just a few yards from the unforgettable white marble statue of Abraham Lincoln- seated, as he contemplates the Federal City. There before you is a breathtaking vista back toward the US Capitol along the monumental spine of the US Mall.
Descending the steps of the Lincoln Memorial pause on the landing where Martin Luther King delivered his I Have a Dream Speech. Then on the final stop of the tour your guide will help you discover a name on the Vietnam Wall as you learn the backstories behind the multiple memorials located here- dedicated to the US servicemen killed or missing in the Vietnam War- and the nurses who bravely supported them.
We end the tour quietly saluting The Eternal Flame, at JFK’s gravesite, visible in the dark hills at Arlington National Cemetery.
