Located about an hour to the west of Barcelona is one of Catalonia's most magnificent geological sites, Montserrat.
Meet your guide at the designated meeting point in Central Barcelona and hop on your van to start your day trip to Montserrat.
This name, which can be translated as 'Serrated Mountain' is breathtaking and the views that you'll gain from the 11th Century landmark at 725 meters, are not to be missed.
Once you arrive, you will make your way to the Monastery and Basilica, where you will have the opportunity to explore the unbelievable plazas, lookouts, chapels and sanctuaries. You will enter the Basilica to see the famous "Black Virgin", enjoying a walk through the chapels along the way, followed by an incredibly scenic walk along the "Rosary of Montserrat", which leads to the sacred cave of Santa Cova. If you would wish to reduce your walking through these places, you will be able to ride the cog-wheel train (at your own expense)
Before departing, you will hear the Escolania (the famous Boys' Choir) sing their daily short performance in the Basilica.
Of course, taking in all the amazing beauty and majesty of Montserrat builds up quite an appetite, so after listening to the choir your tour will continue to one of the local restaurants in a village near the mountain to enjoy a great lunch of traditional Catalan cuisine.
After lunch you will be taken to the Penedes region, where the day trip will end. There you will visit the vineyard and enjoy a private tasting of several of their fantastic wines and cavas, before heading back to Barcelona.
