Mijas, Spain
Trip Type: Family Friendly Tours & Activi
Duration: 60 minutes
We invite you to come and explore the old Town of Mijas Village and its most interesting places on donkeys. In Mijas, in the early 1960s, some workers who were returning to their homes on donkeys, were asked by tourists if they could have a photograph taken it or take a walk. Almost always, the tips given exceeded their salaries. Thus arose another trade. Today, they amount to 60, and are an institution due to being one of the main tourist attractions.

The walk around whitewashed corners, courtyards, gardens, shrines ... the village retains the leisurely pace and charm of the past, sheltered by the mountains and looking out to the countryside and sea. Besides the tourist attractions, such as the donkey-taxis, Mijas Village offers visitors several monuments that are interesting to know.
We will visit ( while riding the 'Donkey Taxi') the tiny bull-ring Plaza de Toros ( just outside photostop 10 min ), with its irregular shape; two Mudejar style churches; remains of the old Arab wall where your can enjoy beautiful gardens and the very interesting sanctuary of the “Virgen de la Peña”, patron of the town. The Church of the Immaculate Conception was built by the Muslims in 836, being converted into a Christian church after the conquest, when a Moorish-style tower was added in 1510. From almost any point of the village you can see the white chapel of Calvary, located at a somewhat higher level.
