You’ll begin your journey at the cruise ship terminal where your guides will transport you to the West Glacier boat launch to outfit you from head to toe in waterproof and safety gear before setting off in a native-style canoe. Located in the Tongass National Rainforest, you will navigate the iceberg-filled Mendenhall Lake on your way to the face of the glacier.
The excitement will continue as you arrive at the rocky beach landing directly next to the glacier. You’ll follow your guides as they lead you across the freshly exposed gravel terrain and onto the glacier’s icy surface. 360-degree views of the Mendenhall Glacier provide one-of-a-kind photo opportunities of the millennia old ice. Then comes the highlight of the trip, as you’ll navigate into an ice cave underneath the glacier. These amazing natural phenomena are always changing and reshaping, so no two tours are alike!
Upon completing your glacier hike, you’ll paddle back across the lake past large waterfalls and wildlife filled with more scenic views before landing back at the launch site.
