Porto has been pointed out, over the past decade, as one of the world's best tourist destinations. And no wonder! The granite city welcomes you with warmness people, a beautiful historic center and dazzles with a cultural diversity.
We start this tour picking you up at your hotel and begin the tour in the Cathedral, the biggest church in town. Right next to it there’s the famous bridge D.Luís from where you can take a magnificent photograph of the greatest landmark of Porto, Ribeira.
And because in this city abound fabulous churches, we suggest a visit to the Church of Santa Clara, built in the mid-fifteenth century and one of the best examples of baroque in Portugal. Then we enter in São Bento train station, considered the 6th most beautiful in the world, with its typical Portuguese blue and white tiles that share some milestones of the history of Portugal. On our way to the river we stop halfway for a visit to the building Palácio da Bolsa and its magnificent Arab Hall and remarkable grand staircase. When leaving note the Mercado Ferreira Borges, former market, but at the moment serves as a concert hall, bar and restaurant. Further down you will find Church of St. Francis, the most important Gothic church in the city with gilded carvings.
Arriving at Ribeira, the heart of Porto made of narrow, winding streets, where the coloured houses contrast with the metallic gray iron of the Bridge D.Luís, you can go for a cruise on the Douro River, passing through the six bridges that are important marks of the landscape of the city. Or simply sit in one of the many cafes and restaurants and have an aperitif before lunch.
In the afternoon we take you to the other side of the river to one of the many cellars of Port wine, where with a guided tour you will have a wine tasting. And with the cable car right outside the door, we suggest a trip to the Serra do Pilar, from where we will go to downtown.
Clérigos Tower, one of the major symbols of Porto invites you to climb its 240 steps to be dazzled by the 360º view. Across the tower there’s the ancient building Cadeia da Relação which houses nowadays the Portuguese Center of Photography, with excellent exhibitions throughout the year.
You cannot miss a visit to Lello bookshop, one of the most beautiful in the world, with its famous Art Nouveau staircase and magnificent stained-glass windows, and then enjoy the tiles of Carmo Church.
The afternoon ends up in Passeio das Virtudes with a great view to the sunset. Your private driver leaves you at your hotel when you had enjoyed all that Porto had to offer.
