Known as Mea She’arim, the area is home to Jerusalem’s Haredim — a community of strictly Orthodox Jews who have, in most senses, rejected modern culture.
Stroll around and enjoy several stops to see a working synagogue, charity and community center, girls school and even a soup kitchen. Learn about the Haredi Jews as you walk, from their beliefs to their lifestyles and culture, which is evident around you. Visit a bakery to sample traditional Jewish pastries such as rugelach and challah, bread made for Shabbat, and see a famous Jewish tomb where two rabbis from the Hasidic group of Gur are buried.
Midway through the tour, head inside a local family home to get an insight into home life for members of the religious community. To help understand their culture further, your next stop is at a large library, which holds an impressive collection of ancient Jewish artifacts.
After four hours exploring the district, return to the start point where your tour ends.
