Pay tribute to the victims of the Holocaust with a trip to Mauthausen Concentration Camp, one of Europe’s largest labor camp complexes during World War II. Just 2 hours from Vienna, the former camp provides a poignant look at the horrors perpetuated by Hitler during the war. Watch a historical documentary and take an audio tour of the grounds. This small-group tour, limited to eight, includes round-trip transport from Vienna.Take a taxi from your hotel to the central meeting point in Vienna to meet your driver. Be sure to keep your receipt: The fare is reimbursed after your tour. Then, hop aboard a Mercedes Sprinter Deluxe van equipped with adjustable seats and Wi-Fi.
Relax as you travel through the beautiful countryside of Lower and Upper Austria, and enjoy stops along the way for coffee and snacks (own expense). On board, watch a short documentary featuring historical footage and Holocaust survivors' accounts of life at the concentration camps during WWII.
After a 2-hour journey, arrive at Mauthausen Memorial, a building that stands on the site of the former Mauthausen Concentration Camp. By the summer of 1940, Mauthausen had become one of the largest labor camp complexes in the German-occupied part of Europe. Some 200,000 people are thought to have been imprisoned at Mauthausen between 1938 and 1945, and about half of them lost their lives. Mauthausen was the last camp complex to be liberated by the Allies.
Grab your audio guide for a self-guided tour through the preserved grounds, a chilling portal into the atrocities committed by Hitler and the Germans during the Holocaust. See the prisoner’s barracks, Wiener-Graben quarry, the so-called 'Stairs of Death,' SS-quarters, camp prison, gas chamber and the highly rated Mauthausen Museum.

After visiting the camp, start your journey back to Vienna, and stop along the way for lunch at a traditional Austrian restaurant (own expense). Your tour then finishes either back at your hotel or in central Vienna in the late afternoon.
