Hawaii is considered the #1 place in the world to view Mantas. The Manta Rays here have become conditioned where to go each night to find an easy meal; feeding on the plankton that is attracted by our underwater lights...which makes locating them easy for us! With wing spans that can reach over 20 feet across, manta rays are the main focus of this tour. Remember Manta Rays have no barb stinger on the tail or teeth. They are graceful gentle giants. You will also see common reef fish and eels.

  • Manta Rays are NOT in many places around the world
  • Manta Rays are only seen in the West waters of the Big Island
  • Don't miss this spectacular event
  • Breathtaking views of the Hawaiian sunset on Sunset Manta Ray Tour
  • Exclusive snorkel on Moonlight tour (Not many companies are able to provide a moonlight tour. This results in less snorkelers at the Manta Ray snorkel location and is therefore a more exclusive tour)

How it works:
Our boat is able to reach the Manta Ray snorkel location in about 10-15 min. Other boats usually take about 30-40 min.
As the sun is setting we tuck into a bay at the Manta feeding area and listen to the story of how the world-famous Manta Tour was started, learn about the mantas here in Hawaii and receive a briefing on Manta viewing guidelines and proper "manta etiquette". After the sun sets, you will step into your wet suit, put on your snorkel and enter the water with your swim guides. There is an optional late manta ray tour which allows for a less crowded snorkeling area.

Snorkeling
When snorkeling with the Manta Rays you will hold on to a comfortable bar attached to a large surfboard that has 16 bright LED drop lights. This makes it easy to keep our groups together and the mantas feed on the plankton underneath us that is attracted by our lights. Your swim guides will keep your board positioned over the manta ray snorkeling area. All snorkel gear is provided.

FAQ
Do I have to wear a wet suit?
No but we recommend it because it helps keep you warm and float. The water temperature is an average of 65 to 70 degrees.

Can manta rays hurt me?
No. Unlike eagle rays or sting rays the mantas have no teeth or stinger. The manta rays are considered to be gentle giants of the sea.

How close do we get to the mantas ?
The manta rays come very close. They may even bump against you. Please don't try to touch them as it is against the law.

What are the chances of seeing the manta ray?

We have about an 85% chance of seeing manta rays. While diving, scuba divers shine lights up while snorkelers shine theirs down creating a column of light which attracts millions of minuscule plankton, which in turn attracts the manta rays.
