Your can paddle down northern Michigan’s most exciting river as it flows through scenic red sand cliffs, strewn with waterfalls. Stop for lunch along the banks, swim in watering holes, and enjoy dinner at a lovely riverside campsite where you can watch the stars at night.This local tour operator offers experienced guides who will share their knowledge of the Manistee River ranging from myths and legends to ecology and history. You will meet them at the Hodenpyl Dam trailhead and they will take it from there - including food, canoes, equipment, and more!
You will meet your local guide at the Hodenpyl Dam launch south of Mesick and about an hour outside of Manistee, Michigan. The experienced guides will give you basic paddling instruction then take you down the river in our durable aluminum canoes. You will pass several waterfalls, swimming holes and a few fun minor rapids. Customization is a part of all Crystalaire guiding and they will help you to plan a trip that fits your needs, interests, physical stamina and the weather. All meals are provided for the duration of the program.
Please note any food allergies at the time of checkout in the "special requirements" field. It is important that you know how to swim in order to participate.
Some of the possible activities include scrambling to the top of the legendary "sand cliffs", learning about the local folklore - including traditions of river spirits and the local "Dog Man", leaping from a rope swing or low-lying trees, getting spun around in some swimming holes and sunbathing on the grassy river banks.
