The largest lake in Guatemala, Lake Izabal, is located in the department of Izabal, and measures 590 km2. During this tour, you will spend one night at an eco-hostel which is run by 7 indigenous women and will be able to observe manatees from a boat on the lake.

The largest lake in Guatemala, Lake Izabal, is located in the department of Izabal, and measures 590 km2. During this tour, you will spend one night at an eco-hostel which is run by 7 indigenous women and will be able to observe manatees from a boat on the lake.
During this tour, you will be picked up from Guatemala City at 9am and will be transferred to Izabal. The transfer may take between 4-5 hours, depending on traffic conditions. Once you arrive, you will settle at an eco-hostel downtown which is run by a local indigenous community. Please note that the hostel does not have regular electricity, only a power plant that provides electricity for about 3 hours during the evening.
You will have the opportunity to go swimming at Punta El Chapin beach on lake Izabal and take a boat ride to Rio Oscuro where you will be able to watch the manatees and other species. It is important to stay quiet while observing the animals as they are can be scared away.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be offered and you will make your way back to Guatemala City on the next day, arriving to Guatemala City around 9:00pm on Day 2.
