A USCG Master Captain and certified guide will take you out on a USCG inspected and covered pontoon boat in search of the Florida manatee. Learn about wild manatee and snorkel with them in their natural environment. Don't forget your swim suits, towels, drinks & snacks. Upon arrival we will take your name and confirm your reservation. We recommend reservations, which are generally prepaid to ensure availability for your date and time. You're also directed to arrive 30-45 minutes prior to your tour time to ensure a timely departure. Children of all ages are not exempt from participating, but parental discretion is advised.
Our front desk staff will issue you a wet suit and direct you to an area to try it on. Your wet suit is worn over your swim clothes, and works best if it fits skin tight. Snorkel gear will be provided on the boat. You're welcome to bring drinks, snacks and personal gear with you. Anything you bring on the boat may get wet. We do not allow use of swim fins or flippers on manatee snorkel tours.
Once everyone has arrived and donned their wet suits, passengers will be called inside the shop for a short orientation. This includes a briefing provided by the crew and a short, required video supplied by the Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS).
Emergency life jackets are always on the boat, and swim "noodles" are long flotation devices supplied to each swimmer during the tour. We realize snorkeling is a new experience to many and we are used to working with snorkelers of any skill level. If desired, snorkelers can be supplied with a life jacket before departure. All children under 6 years of age will be provided a mandatory life jacket for the duration of the tour.
Once everyone is aboard, the certified captain will go over required safety information and formal introductions. Every boat will have an in-water swim guide and photographer equipped with a high resolution waterproof camera. Pictures are sold as a no-obligation package at the end of the tour. All guests are welcome to view the images before purchasing. More details offered in our shop.
The guide will address snorkeling techniques, hand out equipment, and discuss procedure and proper behavior. Once the boat has arrived and anchored at its location, swimmers will be instructed to finish donning their equipment and proceed into the water. Once everyone is comfortable and quiet, they will begin looking for and/or viewing manatee. Follow your guide's directions for the best experience!
After the swim, snorkelers will return to the boat. Some days, snorkelers may be required to get on and off the boat many different times. Our captains and guides will always go above and beyond to make sure you have a great experience. Research and realistic expectations are a huge contribution to the quality of your tour!
Our goal is to provide our guests with a memorable experience and spread a message of conservation. We promote passive observation and use an educational approach inline with local regulations and expectations. Swimming with the Florida manatee is a wonderful privilege that we take very seriously, if you are looking for a company that will take good care of you AND the manatees - you're in the right place!
