Travel from Bangkok to the famous Mahachai and Mae Klong seafood markets on the Gulf of Thailand during this full-day journey by train. Take two distinct train lines that connect Bangkok to the coastal provinces of Samut Sakhon and Samut Songkhram — a route that was originally built to transport fresh seafood to the city. Marvel at seafood vendors who conduct business on the train tracks, and enjoy a fresh seafood lunch. A knowledgeable guide shares the history and traditions of the region with your small group, limited to eight people. Meet your guide in the morning in central Bangkok, and take the BTS Sky Train to Wong Wian Yai station, located on the outskirts of the city. From there, walk through quiet neighborhoods to the station where you board the train for Mahachai. If time allows, your guide picks up coffee and snacks from local food stalls to share with you during the ride.

As your train rolls out of the city, watch the tall buildings of Bangkok fade away while rice fields and houses perched on stilts come into view. After a 1-hour journey, arrive in Mahachai, where you'll disembark in the middle of the market that spreads out within arm's reach of the train tracks. It's one of Thailand’s biggest traditional fresh seafood markets.

Follow your guide through small alleys lined with food vendors and into a popular restaurant where you'll feast on fresh seafood for lunch. Then cross the Tha Chin River and jump on the train to Mae Klong, traveling through a landscape sprinkled with salt pines and rice paddies.

As the train arrives in Mae Klong, it passes through the Rom Hub (Umbrella) market, which sits on the train tracks. Vendors pull their awnings and display tables back just as the train rumbles into the station. The vendors know exactly how high they can stack their goods next to the track so that the edge of the train passes over without touching them. As soon as the train departs, they display their goods on the tracks again.

Walk through the Mae Klong market with your guide before traveling back to Bangkok by minivan. On the weekends, you'll also stop at the Amphawa floating market, known for delicious foods that are cooked up and served directly from small boats along the river.

You are returned to Victory Monument where you can make your own way back to your hotel or next destination.
