Head down the stairs of Arch of Cuchilleros through the winding streets and alleys around Plaza de la Villa. A core of medieval Madrid is where you'll see the oldest buildings, House and Tower of Lujanes, where French King François I was lodged prisoner by Spanish Emperor Carlos V. View the House of Cisneros of early renaissance style and Casa de la Villa, the former City Hall until 2007. Then you´ll
see the great neoclassic building of the Cathedral of Almudena and the beautiful Plaza de Oriente where the Royal Palace is located.

This magnificent XVIII century building holds masterpieces of the great Spanish masters such as Velazquez, Goya, El Greco, Ribera, Murillo and the important foreign painters Raphael, Rubens, Bosch, Titian, Fray Angelico and Tintoretto, among other international masters.
