The wonderful museum has a well-chosen collection of antiquities dating from the Middle Kingdom (2055 BC – c. 1650 BC) and continued through to the Mamluk period in Egypt (1250–1517 ad), mostly gathered from the Theban temples and necropolis. There is a new extension to Luxor museum "the Glory of Thebes" inaugurated in 2004, there are two royal mummies of Ahmose I and Ramses I of the New Kingdom (1570 – 1050 BC), some fantastic collection dating back to the time of the New Kingdom.
Continue the tour to visit Luxor Mummification Museum, opened to the public in 1997, the small museum displays human and animal mummies, tools used in the mummification process, explaining the art of mummification, a practice believed by the ancient Egyptians to be a critical part for the eternal life, examples of the types of objects traditionally buried with the dead.
