Head out to Lotus Hill, an ancient quarry site where you can take in beautiful vistas of the Pearl River Delta and carved red sandstone hills. Then, get some shopping and sightseeing done at the popular Huacheng Square before admiring the Guangzhou New Museum and the futuristic and splendid Guangzhou Opera House. 9:30 a.m. An ancient quarry site, Lotus Hill was built during the Qing Dynasty and is composed of 48 red sandstone hills overlooking the Pearl River Delta, 30 km (19 mi) from Guangzhou. The 40 m (131 ft) tall Goddess of Mercy Statue located at the top, the biggest in the world, was cast in 1994 with 120 tonnes of bronze and 180 taels of gold coating. Walk around this area, which has a history of 2,000-years and take in beautiful views of the man-carved, rugged hills. (2 hours)
12:00 p.m. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.
2:00 p.m. Huacheng Square, or Flower City Square, is located in Zhujiang New Town's CBD and a renowned sightseeing and shopping destination in Guangzhou. Stroll the lush area and view the impressive Canton Tower across the Pearl River. Admire the exterior design of the Guangdong New Museum and the Guangzhou Opera House, the impressive futuristic creation designed by leading British architect, Zaha Hadid. (1 hour)
3:15 p.m. Stop at the Arts & Craft Center to admire some traditional Chinese art. You can also pick up a few souvenirs such as china, jade, painting and calligraphy, tea and sculptures if you're so inclined. (0.5 hours)
