Want a small-group Lima tour truly off the beaten path? Want to get to know Lima beyond the touristic areas? Then this 7-hour tour is what you're looking for. An intercultural experience that takes you to alternative sights such as an artisanal fish market, where we go on a short boat ride along the coast in a fisher’s boat, a visit to Lima’s version of the Christ and the Morro Solar with its great view of Lima. The highlight of the tour is the visit to one of Lima's human settlements with a local guide, including the 2nd largest cemetery in the world, an NGO who does excellent work to improve life in some of Lima's poorest neighborhoods and an entrepreneurial local lady who has started her own fair trade business in her own house. You'll also have lunch at a local family where we'll share some stories with our hosts.Your guide will pick you up from your hotel at around 10am. You'll then head towards the Chorrillos artisanal fishmarket and pier, where your guide will explain about the daily life of the small-scale fishermen before going on a 20-minute boat tour (life vests included). From the boat, you'll see the contrast between the basic colorful fishers' boats often overtaken by the pelicans and the modern skyline of Miraflores in the background as well as the desert landscape that is typical for most of the Peruvian coastline. In the boat, the guide will share some striking historical facts and stories about the places you see.

After the boat ride, you will head up the Morro Solar where, on a clear day, you can enjoy a beautiful view of Lima and the coast. On other days, you may experience the typical Lima fog, 'neblina', which is a different, but also interesting experience. On the Morro Solar, you will also meet the Christ of the Pacific.

After a 30-minute drive, you'll reach the 2nd largest cemetery in the world. It's a very impressive place, different than any other cemetery you have visited before. It's located amidst the hills and human settlements. You'll have the chance to look around and if you're into photography, you'll surely take a bunch of artistic photos.

After the visit to the cemetery, you'll head towards the human settlement where our local cook has prepared a lunch for your group (around 1:45 PM). These human settlements are the result of the late 20th Century growth towards the hills by migrant populations in Lima. While these are the poorest neighborhoods of Lima, they're filled with hardworking people who're trying to provide a better life for their children. The visit focuses on hope, optimism and positive initiatives.

After lunch, a local guide will show you around her neighborhood located on the hillsides of Lima’s outskirts and will show you some of the innovative social and environmental projects that have been set up by a local NGO. The aim of this experience is a genuine intercultural experience since you'll visit and interact with several locals.

You'll learn more about daily life in this harsh environment but will also get the chance to be introduced to some of the efforts carried out to improve the situation. You'll see the great work they’re doing with local kids, teenagers or adults and on some days, you'll even be able to participate in the activities. The tour visits different projects and NGOs on different days. One project focuses for instance on the rights and empowerment of domestic workers, while another focuses on environmental awareness for young people.

Your driver and guide will drop you off back at your hotel around 5 or 5:30pm, depending on traffic conditions.
