Travel along a network of great roads to see some of the beautiful bays, beaches, scenery, lighthouses, shipwrecks, historic towns and suburbs of the Cape Peninsula on this well paced full day tour.
Experience some of the "must see" and most visited jewels of the Cape such as the Fynbos Plant Kingdom, the smallest but one of the richest plant Kingdoms of the world, Chapman's Peak Drive which is hailed as one of the most beautiful coastal passes in the world,Cape Point and it's famous old lighthouse, the Cape of Good Hope, which is the most South Western Point of the African Continent, an African Jackass Penguin Colony, and Simon's Town, an ex-English Naval Base which is now South Africa's largest naval base. You will depart from your hotel at around 8am and travel southward in the direction of the False Bay en route to Cape Point. Your first stop is at the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve.

Next, make your way to the Cape Point Lighthouse. You may purchase a ticket for the funicular ride (not included) to the upper station and walk the approximately 100 steps up to the lighthouse where you will visit the Cape Point Lighthouse, OR you may choose to walk (15min one way) to the Lighthouse which is situated over 650 feet (200m) above sea level. In 1859 the first lighthouse was completed; it stands at 817 feet (249 m) above sea-level on the highest section of the peak, and is now used as the centralized monitoring point for all the lighthouses on the coast of South Africa.

You will go to the most south western point of the African Continent namely, the Cape of Good Hope. Named the ‘Cape of Storms’ by Bartholomew Dias in 1488; the point was treated with respect by sailors for centuries. By day, it was a navigational landmark and by night, and in fog, it was a menace beset by violent storms and dangerous rocks that over the centuries littered shipwrecks around the coastline.

Then you will depart for Simon's Town, which is where South Africa's largest naval base is located. Simon's Town was originally named after Simon van der Stel, the Dutch governor of the Cape Colony between 1677 and 1699, who surveyed the bay east of Cape Town in 1687 and earmarked it as a safe winter harbor during the months of May to September. The town grew rapidly when it became a Royal Naval Base and the home of the South Atlantic Squadron under the second British occupation of the Cape in 1806.

Simon's Town is also where you may visit the Colony of African Jackass Penguins. The penguins nest in burrows they dig out of their own guano, or in areas under boulders or bushes. Recent removal of the guano for fertilizer has forced the penguins to change their habits and nest primarily under bushes and boulders.

After your visit here, the tour will head for one of the most beautiful coastal mountain passes in the world, Chapman's Peak Drive. This road follows the contours of the peak and offers breathtaking views of the ocean. You will continue through Hout Bay and then along the scenic Atlantic Seaboard back to the Mother City.
