Cap off the day with a boat ride through the mangroves of Laguna Limón.After early morning hotel pickup in the Bavaro district of Punta Cana, travel northwest for about 90 minutes through colorful villages. Reach the town of Las Lisas, where you’ll board a cross-country vehicle to rumble up Montaña Redonda.
At the top, capture sweeping views of green valleys and the lakes of Redonda and Limón, part of an ecological reserve covering an expanse of jungle terrain, with La Cordillera Oriental and the sparkling Samana Bay in the background. Then head to a classic island plantation for local insight on how cacao is harvested and coffee is produced.
The enticing aromas will get your appetite going; for lunch, continue to Playa Limón, a rare undeveloped stretch of beach fringed with palm trees. Arrive at the ecotourism lodge of Rancho La Cueva, and dig into a scrumptious seafood buffet. Don’t forget to mosey over to the domestic open bar of alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks.
Then stroll about the grounds, spotting horses and pigs along the way, and visit the on-site gift shop for souvenirs. Back at the ranch, learn how tobacco is made and wrap up the demo by rolling your own cigar.
Next, spend some time on secluded Playa Limón. Canter along by horseback, splash about in the sparkling waters and drink up coconut water from a gourd freshly cracked open.
Finish the day with a boat trip across Laguna Limón. As you glide along the placid waters, soak up views of mountains, beach shoreline and mangroves.
Return to Playa Limón, where you’ll be transported back to your Bavaro hotel.
