Foshan is also the birthplace of Yu Opera, China’s famous lion dance, and a great place to sample Cantonese cuisineRise early to meet up with your guide and driver at the lobby of your hotel and then head to Foshan City by coach, which will take approximately an hour. In the morning, you will visit Foshan Ancestral Temple, the first temple in Foshan with the longest history. It was built in the second half of the 11th century and was restored in 1372 following a fire. The temple itself is dedicated to the God of the North, Ruler of the Waters.
For a long time after the founding of the temple, the building functioned as the venue for the gentry to discuss local affairs. Today, Foshan Ancestral Temple is under provincial protection and under the care and guidance of Foshan City Museum. Here you will have the opportunity to enjoy a Kungfu show and a lion dance.
Later in the morning, you will visit Nanfeng Ancient Kiln which has a history of five hundred years originating in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). It is incredible because this ancient kiln actually still works, and part of the experience is making your own pottery. Afterwards, you will enjoy a Cantonese-style lunch. Your tour guide will be able to help explain some more about principles of Cantonese cuisine, a cuisine specific to the south of China.
In the afternoon, you will be taken to visit the Foshan Folk Art Institute. The specialty at the Folk Art institute lies on local arts and crafts such as paper cutting, porcelain, and other crafts. You will have a tour here which will last approximately one hour. Following your tour at the Foshan Folk Art Institute, we will enjoy Bruce Lee’s Ancestral House, a typical folk residence made of bricks and wood from the Pearl River Delta. There is a bedroom, a hall, a kitchen, and a dooryard, for a total area of about 51 square meters (or 61 square yards). It’s a very humble house, and you will be able to see the simple furnishing. On the walls, you will be able to read about Bruce Lee and his life experience as well as lots of stills from his films. There is also a hall, a wooden stake, and an incense burner table. The wooden stake is used for practicing Kungfu and the incense burner is used to make sacrifices to Lee’s ancestors. After touring Bruce Lee's ancestral home, you will be taken back to your hotel in downtown Guangzhou or Foshan city center where this day tour concludes.
