Experience the volcano up close and personal as you ride through plush rainforest and lava frozen in time on your 21 speed mountain bike. Your cycling adventure takes place around the rim of the Kilauea Volcano and down a portion of the Chain of Craters road. Our experienced guides will also lead you on a short leisurely hike through the lush rainforest alive with native birds, incredible foliage and a “walk through” lava tube.
After the cycling portion, we will journey to the Puna area. You will witness firsthand the creation and devastation the lava has brought to this area over the last 50 years – villages destroyed and new land created. Take the “road less traveled” where the scenery is amazing as you weave through the rainforest and take in the jagged cliffs overlooking the crystal blue waters of the Pacific Ocean. Walk out to the new black sand beach at Kaimu, which has forever been changed by the lava flows in the early 1990’s. Depending on the volcanic activity at the time of the tour, we will try to locate “flow or glow” either at the coast or with a trip up to Halema’uma’u Crater. Experience the unique sights that most travelers never see on their own or with other tour companies.
Throughout the tour your excursion specialist will share with you history, culture and geology of the area during the frequent stops along the way – an exciting and active way to spend the day discovering how lava has changed our land forever.
