This tour is a tour of the authentic Kawadoko dining experience by the river at a long-standing restaurant-hotel, the Ugenta or Sagenta, where the food is highly recognized. This is also a short escape from Kyoto’s summer heat in a pleasant atmosphere where the river Kibune flows rapidly while the cool air blows in. This tour will conveniently take you from in front of the Kyoto Gekijo, a theater adjacent to JR Kyoto Station, to the restaurant by bus.

Kawadoko has its origins in the Edo period when the people of Kyoto would look for restaurants with dining patios that extended over rivers. During the hot summers, these dining patios would have a cooling affect from the breeze and the rushing river below.
For this tour, you will be picked up by the driver in front of the Kyoto Gekijo (theater) inside of the Kyoto Station building at 10:20am. Then, the shuttle bus will bring you to the "Ugenta or Sagenta" at Kibune, where you can enjoy the wonderful experience of Kawadoko dining over the river, followed by a walk around the area.
After lunch, you will be picked up by the shuttle bus again which will bring you back to the original departure place around 3:10pm.
