4-hour session - distance (return) is 4.5-miles (7.2-kilometers). Explore the first gorge at a relaxed pace, you will have ample time to admire the scenery & wildlife, swim, bushwalk or picnic. Single or double canoes may be hired at 8am or 12:30pm.
Full Day - Gorge Canoe Hire
8-hour session – distance (return): second gorge is 7.6-miles (12.2-kilometers), third gorge is 9-miles (14.6-kilometers) and fourth gorge is 10.3-miles (16.6-kilometers). Experienced canoeists will make it to the end of the 4th gorge, where there is Indigenous rock art and a picnic spot perfect for lunch or a refreshing swim. This is a great way to explore the Nitmiluk Gorges according to your own itinerary and fitness level. Take in the diversity of the landscapes and habitats as you paddle your way through the gorges, a visual treat for any nature lover.
Overnight Hire
Collect your canoe at 8am on day 1, and return by 4pm on day 2.
This tour allows plenty of freedom in activities including swimming, photography, bush walking and exploring. Feel a spiritual connection as you venture away from the crowds in the tranquil and secluded 5th, 6th and 7th gorge. The first designated overnight campsite is the 5th gorge, which is approximately 5.6-miles (9-kilometers) from the Visitors Centre. A very high level of fitness is required for this tour.
Please note: This option requires canoeists to acquire a permit from Parks & Wildlife. Permits are limited and pre-booking is recommended. Camping is not permitted outside the designated camp sites at the 5th, 6th, 8th and 9th Gorge. Wood fires are also not permitted, however gas and spirit burners may be used. The canoeists are required to supply and carry their own camping equipment and all litter must be brought back.
