Kalaripayattu is the oldest martial art form in the world. In chronicled history, the origins of this art form are cloaked in mythology and mystery, much like Yoga.
As part of this hour-long experience, you will be given a brief history of the ancient art by the 'Kalari Gurukkal', meaning master or guru, before launching into a breath taking performance with his disciples. Apart from bare hand combat, Kalaripayattu fighters also use swords, odd shaped wooden weapons, daggers, and the lethal urumi, a flexible whip-like sword. It is claimed that learned warriors can disable or kill their opponents by merely touching the correct marmam (vital point).
After the performances, the hosts serve an authentic Kerala Sadya, a traditional Kerala feast served on a green banana leaf in a tree house. It is a sumptuous spread of rice and more than 14 delicious vegetable dishes, followed by different varieties of payasams (all freshly prepared vegetarian dishes). Sadya should always be served in a particular manner; the banana leaf is placed before a person so that its narrow part always points to the left side. Each individual dish is served from the top left corner of the leaf and placed in a particular pre-set order designed to accentuate the overall gastronomical experience. Enjoy the traditional cuisine while learning more about their origins and art of serving!
When the tour concludes, you will be dropped off at your hotel in Bangalore City.
