Kaapse Stories from the Mother City is an exciting vibrant one-of-a-kind musical dinner show which offers a blend of humorous storytelling, powerful and emotional songs and likeable performers unique only to Cape Town. Intimate and enchanting, the show allows the audience to get to know and meet the Kleintjies family whilst giving us an insight into a vigorous cosmopolitan community that thrived at the foot of Table Mountain in District Six.
The event starts off with a typical Capetonian starters, including Cape Malay classics like samoosas and snoek paté. Act 1 of the show commences after this. Directed by the award winning director Basil Appollis, this
production places a strong emphasis on entertainment and allows the international
guests to discover the colorful history of the Cape and its vibrant
people. Grandpa Joe, known to everyone as ‘Pa Joe,’ takes the audience on a journey of extraordinary events along with his family, legally adopted or otherwise- brother Bernie, uncle Charlie and precocious granddaughter Genevieve; a host of other surprise characters pop up throughout the night, and display their hidden talents and delightful sense of humor, whilst showing resilience and pride in the face of adversity.
Halfway through Act 1 & Act 2, the show pauses for the main course. This is served on a buffet and is a delicious selection of Cape Malay and Capetonian classics including Vegetable Breyani, Beef Fillet, Cape Hake and much more. When the show has concluded, guests are served traditional Cape desserts including "melktert", "malva pudding" and "koeksisters".
It is dinner theater with a difference, and this interactive entertainment experience with sparkling music, spine-tingling harmonies and vibrant African passion gives Cape Town's growing tourist market an uplifting insight into a remarkable community.
