Glacier Lagoon and South Coast of Iceland. Experience a truly magnificent day tour, devoted to south shore wonders of Iceland, including the Jokulsarlon, awesome glacial lagoon, surreal and breathtaking place, where you can sail among all shape and size icebergs and take a walk on black sand beaches, visit Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss waterfalls and Skaftafell National park. The tour starts from Reykjavik, taking you on the road to the east, passing geothermal power plant and plenty of steaming boreholes, giving the area mystic atmosphere filled with the smell of sulphur. Over the Hellisheidi pass, we continue across the Southern lowlands.

The first stop will be at the Seljalandsfoss waterfall, where you can walk behind a magnificent wall of water. Enjoy the 60m high waterfall from the other side. After all the excitement of Seljalandsfoss and getting a little bit wet, continue the journey to Reynisfjara and Skogafoss.

Reynisfjara black sand beach features stacks of basalt columns that wall off surrounding cliffs scattered with caves. Then, it's a leisurely stroll along the black sand beach. However, beware of powerful waves that can sweep you of your feet if you go too close. Offshore you will see the Reynisdrangar, basalt rock stacks that rise from the sea.

The next stop will be at Skogafoss waterfall. This majestic waterfall is one of the most visited sites in Iceland and for a good reason. From Skogafoss you move toward to the Skaftafell. The tongues of Skeidararjokull, Morsarjokull and Skaftafellsjokull glaciers give the Skaftafell National Park a majestic scenery. You will have a short stop at Skaftafell before continuing towards to Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon.

Your trip will go through the vast desert of Skeidararsandur, an area that can be prone to sand storms. Many of Iceland's biggest glacial rivers run into the Atlantic Ocean of the south shore and carry millions of tons of black volcanic sand, constantly altering the shape of the coastline and creating vast black deserts.

The Glacier lagoon is one of the greatest wonders of nature in Iceland. Huge blocks of ice constantly break off the Breidamerkurjokull glacier (outlet of Vatnajokull) and icebergs of all shapes, sizes and in many hues of blue, turquoise and white, float in the lagoon. The lagoon is not very wide but it is up to 250 meters deep, it is the deepest lake in Iceland.

Take an optional boat tour among the icebergs and/or go for a walk on the black sand shores. The thrilling environment is constantly changing as the massive glacier tongue retreats. Here, you will have time to walk at the shores of the lagoon and you will be predictably busy with your camera, photographing amazing shapes and wonderful, mirror-like reflections. To get an even closer view, you can optionally choose a short cruise aboard the amphibious vessel or a motorboat to sail between all shapes cracked ice formations.

Optional: Amphibian and Zodiac boat tours (not included)
Available from April – October. Note that weather can affect the availability of the tours. The boat tour might not be available in April/early May due to large amounts of ice in lagoon.
