Bucharest never had a true Jewish district, nor a ghetto where they were forced to live during the Holocaust. However, Jews have been settling in the city since early 16th century, mainly around the princely court and the main commercial routes of the city. Today, the areas where most Jewish families were concentrated are mostly forgotten and abandoned, although they are very close to Bucharest’s commercial center. However, their development potential is enormous and their history is very rich.
