The Spanish synagogue is the recent and the most beautiful object of the Jewish Museum. It is not only used as an exhibition place, but as a concert hall and an active synagogue also. We will end the tour in the Maisel synagogue. It was built in 1592 as a private synagogue of Mordechai Maisel, who was a privileged moneylender to Rudolf II and the first mayor of the Jewish town. Recently the synagogue was renovated and a new exhibition on the oldest Jewish history in the Czech Lands was opened here. The history of the Jews in the Czech Lands from 10th century until the end of the 18th century is presented by using new technologies.
It comprises a lot of beautiful artefacts and documents illustrating different aspects of the life from medieval times until the end of 18th century like legal status, livelihoods, language, religious and cultural life and mysticism in the historical context. The most attractive issue of the exhibition is the animated model of the ghetto in its form from thirties of 19th century.
As a highlight it is to be mentioned the true replica of a seal ring from 12th century found recently in 2004.
