Then, enjoy an authentic local experience as you explore the winding passageways of Khan el-Khalili, one of the world’s largest bazaars.
Your 4-hour tour starts in the El Dokki district, across from downtown Cairo. Follow your guide up Mokattam hill to the Citadel of Saladin (or Al-Qalaa), an Islamic fortification overlooking the whole city.
This famous citadel was constructed by Salah El Din in 1183 AD to protect against the attacks of the Crusaders, and served as a royal residence for Egypt’s rulers for more than 700 years. Learn about the citadel’s mosques, palaces and museums and enjoy sweeping views over Cairo. Next, visit the 14th-century Sultan Hassan Mosque, one of the largest mosques in the world and undoubtedly one of Cairo’s most iconic landmarks. Be wowed by the mosque’s colossal scale as you explore the interior and learn about its remarkable Mamluk construction.
Shifting gears, it’s time to hit the streets of Cairo for an authentic local experience: shopping at a bazaar. Following your guide, venture through the labyrinth of narrow streets and passageways of Khan el-Khalili, one of the world’s largest souks. Stop at local vendors to practice your bargaining skills and purchase handcrafted souvenirs, or simply relax and watch the hustle-bustle go by.
Your guide will then escort you back to the starting point, where your tour ends.
