Do you want to experience the Greenland’s spectacular nature out of the tourist marked circuits?
Join us and enjoy the most exclusive views of the Kangia and the Ice Cap all along an exciting route that navigates among lakes, mountains and dramatic cliffs. With this exclusive hike you have the chance to spot arctic wildlife! Our tour starts at the beginning of the summer blue route (in the Quarry) and follows the little canyon to turn left to climb a constant but easy ramp reaching our first viewpoint, from where we have a privileged panorma of the big plateau and the famous Disko Island on the horizon. Afterwards we descent to the south to surround the big lake, before hiking to the top that dominates the Imilik Bay, the Ice fjord bank and its huge stocked icebergs. Once there we have time to rest and enjoy our lunch with an aerial view of the Ilulissat Icefjord.
From there, we cross the stream that ends at the Kangia to reach the summer blue marked trial all the way until Holmens Bakke, the famous spot where every 13th of January the inhabitants of Ilulissat celebrate the sun rising again, after 6 weeks long weeks of darkness.
Finally our hike stops at the abandoned settlement Sermermiut where for the last 4000 years three different Inuit cultures (the Saqqaq, the Dorset and the Thule) have lived and left interesting remains. After a full day out in the beautiful nature we return the last kilometer of the trail to reach the old heliport of Ilulissat.
