The tour begins with a pickup in the hotel reception and reaches Chiquila, which is the port on the mainland opposite the island. Boats are boarded immediately to continue the adventure. The first visit is to Isla Pajaros (Bird Island), a half-acre island 500 meters from the main island; that as the name suggests, has a great variety of birds, since it’s an ideal location for nesting because of the lack of natural predators. The next destination is Ojo de Agua (Water Eye), which is an open cenote that is also a natural spring. Something extremely rare in the Yucatan Peninsula since the whole river system is underground. The final visit is to Isla Pasion (Passion Island) where there is a small pond and a sandbar that makes the mile in distance to Holbox to be walkable all the way. This makes for a perfect feeding ground for flamingos.
Finally you reach the port in Holbox to have a delicious lunch at a beachfront restaurant. After replenishing energies, its time to drive a golf cart around the island, first with a guide showing the highlights and then its time to explore alone. The day ends with free time that can be used to explore the farthest corners of the island, or have a refreshing drink underneath a palapa in front of the Caribbean Sea to reflect on the wonders that have been seen through the day.
We return to the hotel in time to get ready for dinner and continue to enjoy a wonderful day.
