The journey starts at the meeting point in Barcelona, where your guide will take you to Montserrat with an air-conditioned vehicle. Enjoy the ride throughout the countryside as the imposing mountain formation appears in the way.
Once at the destination, a visit Santa Maria de Montserrat, the mountain’s Benedictine monastery, and the "Black Madonna". A wooden carving from the 12th-century, known as La Moreneta (the Dark One). One of the symbols of Catalonia and a very important pilgrimage destination in Spain.The schedule and small groups allow to avoid all the queues, offering you more time for the rest of the activities.
Then, an ascent to the middle part of the Montserrat range taking the St Joan funicular railway. With its glass roof, it offers spectacular sights of the monastery and the mountain. On a clear day, ravishing views of the landscape make it a definitely great experience.
After the ride, the hiking starts. The Montserrat Natural Park is waiting for you and your experienced guide is willing to offer different options depending on the group preferences. The remains of dug shrines and hermitages that you will find as you walk are one of the highlights of the hike. Visit them as you listen to ancient stories about how important they became during the Independence War against the Napoleonic Army in the early 19th century. The hike takes usually about 2 hours (including going down to the monastery), but the itinerary can be adapted to the group level.
To finish (if there's time and depending on availability. Not available on summer), back to the monastery to listen to the beautiful songs of "La Escolania", one of the oldest children’s choirs in all of Europe (14th century).
