Then set off on 6 hour walk from the walking lodge through the natural park following a mountain track. After 30 minutes we cross a small river and climb towards the narrow and charming Ibex goat tracks that criss cross the mountains. Following the wild mountain goat tracks for 2 hours, smelling the air of wild lemon thyme, wild rosemary and wild sage, we then sit high above the natural park, to take in the views to the sea, to Morrocco, and across the Almijara mountain range. In the cliff faces behind us, in the Spring time, Booted Eagles, Hawk Eagles and other Eagle species, nest and rear their young. To our feet we see wild orchids of over 45 different species. Your guide will provide a fresh fruit snack with bottled water or juice.
After 15 or 20 minutes or when the group is ready, we continue to follow the mountain track and slowly descend the mountain to 400 meters above sea level, from 800 meters above sea level. along the mountain track again, with a challenging but enjoyable uphill hike, we enter, what appears to be a random gorse and other large shrub bush. Through the other side and we find ourselves following a narrow mountain path, surrounded by green shrubs and mountain blooms, and looking up towards the alhama mountain range. We walk this gentle uphill narrow path for about one hour until we get to the top of the foothill, where again we stop to take in the breathtaking 360 views of the 3 mountain ranges. Over the top we go to walk along the ridge of the foothill fo another 30 minuts until we then descend into a dry riverbed, lined with stunning flowers and shrubs native to the area. We follow the dry river bed for another 30 minuites climbing out to find ourselves in the tiny and traditional, and immensely historical Lost Village of Acebuchal. Having eaten a wonderful picnic lunch provided by your guide, we embark on the return journey, about an hour and 20 minutes walk back to the walking lodge.
In the afternoon, as an additional activity, guests may embark on their extra learning activity of painting, Spanish language, viticulture, sculpting, yoga, or if not a combination walking holiday a few hours of reading and relaxation in the 14,000 spaure meter grounds of the walking lodge before dinner is served. Accompanying dinner is a 5 man flamenco dancing troup, ready to whisk you off to learn how to dance and move to the rhythm and wonderful sound of the live Spanish band.
