Enjoy a full day (8-hour) excursion to Herculaneum and Mt Vesuvius from Sorrento by air-conditioned coach.Depart in the morning from Sorrento by air-conditioned coach and head towards Naples.
The first stop will be Herculaneum (total journey time approx. 1.5 hours), where you will experience a guided visit of the historic site (entrance ticket at own expense).
Herculaneum was a residential coastal town which has been covered in volcanic mud during the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD. Start your guided tour (approx. 1-hour) looking at the site from above and then head down walking along the incredibly well preserved streets. There are still original timbers showing in the buildings and clay pots stored as they would have been at the time of the eruption.
The tour takes in many of the most important sites including the public baths with their well preserved frescoes and mosaics along with the shops and gymnasium.
At the end of the visit, board your coach and depart for Mount Vesuvius. On the way up, stop for lunch (at own expense).
Next stop will be Mt Vesuvius. The coach will take you up to mt. 1000 and, if you wish, you will be able to reach the crater on foot. Ticket entrance at are own expense, and there is a guard at the foot of the volcano who provides walking sticks which you can hire for a small charge to help you walk up to the crater.
Upon reaching the crater, you will have free time to stroll around before to return to your coach.
The return to Sorrento is scheduled at approx. 5pm.
