Located in the middle of the mountains, close to Pyrenees are located villages like Ripoll, with its famous Benedictine monastery can be considered the heart of Catalonia. These villages with a rich history were very important in the middle ages when the population hides in the mountains to protect themselves.
You will leave Barcelona early in the morning heading north to Ripoll, there you will have time for breakfast and visit the village. From Ripoll you will drive a little bit further to Sant Joan de les Abadeses where you will make a short stop to take a glimpse over its rich historical patrimony, just few kilometers ahead you will start your hiking tour along peaceful trails surrounded by Mediterranean and sub alpine forest.
You will hike for around four hours reaching viewpoints to enjoy the beautiful environment.
On your way back you will stop at Vic for lunch, a lively city full of history where you will visit the narrow streets and the big market square that have hold the weekly market for centuries.
