If people want to spend time in the falls swimming or longer in the bush the tours we can accommodate your requests. The lunch is also an experience in itself with fantastic wholesome home made food and the very eclectic and very Piha surrounds at the Piha Cafe.
The tour starts with a pickup at approx 11.30am at your inner city accommodation then its approximately a 35 minute drive to the Arataki center at the start of the Waitakere Ranges. Here there is a unique opportunity to see both the Pacific Ocean and the Tasman sea on either side of NZ from one place. The Arataki center itself has extensive displays showing the diversity of wildlife as well as the early pioneers way of life.
We then head to the famous Piha surf beach renowned for its great surf and scorching hot black sand, a walk on the beach and dipping your toes into the cold Tasman sea is a must. Then its time for a treat with some wholesome food and drink at the Piha Cafe.
Next stop is over the hill at Karekare, only 10 minutes drive but a world away is the much more moody and Isolated Karekare Beach site of many films including Jane Campions film “The Piano” here we see the waterfall, If you'd like a swim at the waterfall it is safe and has fresh water and is a great option.
Noisy and alive one day and cloaked in low cloud and eerily silent the next our next stop is the Cascade Kauri Park in the heart of the Waitakere Ranges, here we walk a short track to see some giant Kauris majestically piercing through the canopy. The Ranges are steeped in ancient myths and legends and its easy to see why as you walk through.
From here we head back to Auckland central to drop you off refreshed and invigorated after a day of good food and clean air.
