A half-day tour specifically tailored to cruise passengers, or anyone with limited time in San Juan del Sur. Enjoy all of these things with an English speaking guide and while never having to travel more than a few kilometres from the centre of town.The tour starts just yards from the port were you will learn a little about the history of San Juan del Sur and see a hotel that used to be the beach house of Nicaraguan dictator Anastasio Somoza Debayle. You will then travel a short distance by air-conditioned mini-van to the local church where you will learn about the revolution that overthrew Somoza in 1979 and about the man who was a major inspiration for it.
You will then have the opportunity to enter the church, and take photographs, before heading upwards to the statue of Cristo de la Misericordia overlooking the bay and hear about a local man who made a deal with God. This part of the tour requires reasonable fitness as there are almost 100 stairs to climb, but you have around 45 minutes there in total, so there is no rush, and you will be provided with a bottle of water.
Next, you will move out of town to the Las Nubes Adventure Park where you will take an exciting 15-minute, 2.5km all terrain vehicle ride upwards through the forest, stopping to spot sloths and birds of prey on the way up. Once at the top, guests have a choice of views and activities: on one side there is a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean, whilst on the other is an even more spectacular view of Lake Nicaragua and the island of Ometepe with it's twin volcanoes.
You'll spend around an hour here during which time you can relax with a cold drink (maybe try some Nicaraguan rum or beer!) and use the high-speed wi-fi, or, if feeling adventurous you can try some of the park's other activities such as the canopy tour or the Tarzan swing. Once you're finished at the top you'll head back down the hill in the ATVs and then to the luxurious Pelican Eyes Resort & Spa where you will receive a free welcome drink and can enjoy full access to the pool, restaurant and spa for the rest of the day or, if you prefer, you can take advantage of the free shuttle into town or to the port.
