Located only 7 kilometers from Hue’s city center, Thanh Toan is a peaceful countryside where the scents of an ancient village founded since 16th century is still very much visible through the landscape, temples and way of living. If you are looking for a tour that brings you back to the Vietnam of a bygone era that was rich in traditions and you are in Hue, don’t miss this tour opportunity. We will leave in the early morning from your Hue hotel and drive through the countryside in comfort, along with an English speaking guide. The ride is short but it will open a new world when knowing that this picturesque village of Thanh Toan is just 7 kilometers away from the Imperial City.
Upon arrival, you will meet the farmers on the field and learn some authentic farming techniques (depending on the season and weather conditions). Continue exploring the countryside is a must as there is so much to see and to do, such as wandering around the village and clans’ shrine house.
At the end of our journey through the village, hop on a sampan and throw out a line with a local fisherman. This is really the best example of ‘hanging out like a local’ on the intriguing tile roofed bridge, built since 17th century with typical architecture “Thuong Gia Ha Kieu” (literally translated as ‘the house is above and the bridge is below’). Built two centuries ago the covered bridge of Thanh Toan is unique in that only two exist in Vietnam (the other being in Hoi An). Built as a tribute to the villagers, the bridge has survived many natural disasters such as floods, storms and wars. However after it was damaged, the villagers always contributed to repair, renovate and preserve it and it remains the symbol of perseverance of the village and its residents
At the end of the day, the road back to Hue slowly dooms up while following a trail that follows the contours of the river. Cycling is the best way to end this half day excursion and explore paths and pieces of history that one cannot normally reach by car or can be found on any other tourism trails.
Your driver will bring you safely back to your hotel in Hue at around lunch time
