This private tour of Hue gives you a great insight in to Hue's past with an experienced and informative local guide. You visit the Forbidden Citadel, home to the Nguyen Emperors of Vietnam from the 18th century until 1945 and Thien Mu Pagoda one of the best known Buddhist sites in the city. We pick you up at 9am from your hotel and we start with a visit to the Imperial Citadel which is a walled fortress and was intended to be a copy of Chinese Emperors’ Forbidden City in Beijing, China. After accessing the Ngo Mon Gate we enter into this Purple Forbidden City, which was reserved for the Nguyen royal family from the 18th century until the mid-1900s.

Unfortunately, American bombing in 1968 in response to a communist takeover of Hue flattened most of the city. So we can see only a few surviving buildings such as the Thai Hoa Temple, Can Thanh Temple, The Mieu, and Hieu Lam Cac, but all that remains make a well worth visit.

We then drive along the bank of the Perfume River to Thien Mu Pagoda, this 7 storrey octagonal tower is a real symbol of Hue. After our visit to the Pagoda we return to your hotel around 1pm.
