Venture to the beautiful Bordeaux countryside for a relaxing afternoon of wine tasting, followed by a Garonne River cruise. Drive by coach to a winery in the famous Médoc wine region, where you'll sample prized Bordeaux wines during an informative tasting session. Travel back to Bordeaux on a scenic boat cruise along the Gironde estuary, sipping more wine as you take in the waterfront scenery. Board a coach or minivan in central Bordeaux and leave the busy city behind as you travel to the renowned Médoc wine region. Watch as the cityscape gives way to the rolling hills and grape-laden vineyards of the countryside, and listen as your guide explains the area’s rich winemaking history and heritage.

Hop off at a local winery, where you’ll meet the expert winemaker and gain an insight into Médoc’s wine traditions and tricks of the trade. Located on the left bank of the Gironde estuary, near the Atlantic Ocean, Médoc is different from other Bordeaux wine regions; its mild climate and high rainfall are not typically ideal for growing grapes, but the gravel and limestone soil is superb — and has been for thousands of years. In fact, it’s believed that wine has been produced here since the 8th century! Today Médoc is home to nearly 1,500 vineyards, specializing in red wines.

Sample a variety of local wines, such as merlot and cabernet sauvignon, during an informative tasting session. Feel free to ask any questions you may have about winemaking in Bordeaux as you sip and savor.

Then head to the banks of the Gironde estuary, where the Garonne and Dordogne rivers meet, and climb aboard a boat for your return trip to Bordeaux. On board, enjoy a second wine tasting with your guide, and relax as you cruise gracefully back to the city center.
