Some of the stops on this half-day tour include one of the most revered religious monuments in Myanmar, the Mahamuni Pagoda with a Buddha image that originally was made out of alloy but fine foils of gold were gilded on and it now weighs over a ton. The golden crown of the images is decorated in diamonds, jade, rubies, sapphires and emeralds.
You'll also visit the Shwe Inbin Monastery and the Shwenandaw Kyaung (Golden Palace Monastery), an imposing teak monastery temple that was originally built within the palace complex but subsequently dismantled and rebuilt some years later.
Your tour continues on to the Kuthodaw Pagoda, consisting of 729 marble slabs in which the entire Buddhist Canon is inscribed. You'll also visit a traditional handloom silk workshop as well as a Kalaga tapestries craftmen's shop before proceeding to Mandalay Hill. If you are on the afternoon tour, this will be the perfect time to get your sunset photos as we will be here just in time for you to catch the beautiful sunset. Mandalay hill is a natural focus for the city, and the only place with a panoramic view over the city and surrounding plain.
