Swim with dolphins in the calm sheltered waters of the scenic Marlborough Sounds on this half-day tour. Qualified guides will be there to make sure you (and the dolphins) have an enjoyable and safe experience. They will also help you spot some of the 5 species of dolphins that frequent the waters of the Sounds. Our Department of Conservation full permits allows us to seek out and interact with all species of marine mammals that live in the Sounds. We take you where the wildlife is and provide respectful interactions with these amazing creatures.

Swim with dolphins in the calm sheltered waters of the scenic Marlborough Sounds on this half-day tour. Qualified guides will be there to make sure you (and the dolphins) have an enjoyable and safe experience. They will also help you spot some of the 5 species of dolphins that frequent the waters of the Sounds. Our Department of Conservation full permits allows us to seek out and interact with all species of marine mammals that live in the Sounds. We take you where the wildlife is and provide respectful interactions with these amazing creatures.
Your half-day dolphin swimming experience will begin at our base shop (address to be provided on voucher) at 8:15am. You will be fitted for a wetsuit, mask and snorkel, and given an in depth safety briefing on what to expect and how to act around the dolphins.
You will then be taken out into the Sounds. There are 5 different species of dolphin that frequent the waters. They include Dusky, Bottlenose, Common, Orca and the rare Hector's dolphins. Once out in the water we will look for at least one of those 5. You will be provided with binoculars on board so you can help us look for the dolphins, as well as ID cards of various marine animals and sea birds.
Once spotted, we’ll cruise with the dolphins and get the swimmers ready if conditions allow. As a permitted operator, we abide by the rules and regulations established for dolphin swimming and viewing activities. If conditions are good, then we’ll place you in the water where you will experience a true adventure for your soul! Once you come out the water your guides will be waiting with warm water, hot drinks and some cookies which you can enjoy while we cruise back to Picton.
The tour will primarily operate in an area of little to no sea swell - meaning seasickness will not be a problem for you. All equipment is provided for you. Just bring your swim wear, a towel and your camera.
