Experience a typical Market Day at the Oranjezicht City Farm Market, which is held every Saturday at the historic Granger Bay site at the V&A Waterfront. This is a community farmer’s-style market where independent local farmers and artisanal food producers link urban farming with Cape Town’s history & heritage, using seasonal produce. You can mingle with locals while they do their weekly food shopping (vegetables, fruit, bread, organic dairy, free-range eggs, honey, muesli, etc.) and try out some delicious cooked and raw foods (for own account), while feeling inspired about helping to build an alternative food system. Edible plants and seedlings as well as compost, gardening supplies and equipment are also available for purchase.
Continue to the Good Company Farmers’ Market at the Company’s Garden (South Africa’s oldest garden created in 1652 to grow vegetables). The farmer’s market is set in the Paddock's area of Company's Garden beneath giant oak trees, and has a great deal and variety of fresh farmers’ produce and products, delicious food, flowers and more. Enjoy delicious eats and treats (for own account) to take home with you or to enjoy on the spot. Your expert guide will be on hand to assist with insider tips on the local farmers and the produce they sell. Choose from a wonderful selection of food stalls with a variety of locally flavoured foods, such as Spicy Cape Cuisine, Sweet Dreams home-made fudge, Maggino Bros. artisanal pizza, Blerrie Boerie (boerewors rolls), and a whole lot more! You’ll also have the opportunity to browse through local arts and crafts and a careful selection of retail stalls, such as Chill Winstan, Nama Collection and Tribal Beading Sandals.
