Discover the spectacular mountain of Montserrat on this half day tour by a comfortable bus and expert guide who will explain you the fascinating history of this unique mountain near Barcelona. An incomparable place not to be missed!Enjoy with total comfort an excursion to the Montserrat Mountain on a half-day trip from Barcelona! You'll visit the Royal Basilica of Montserrat with its 12th-century carving of  the Lady of Montserrat (the Black Virgin) and, after your guide entertains you with the history and legends of the mountain, enjoy free time to explore on your own.

Departing from the very center of Barcelona and after driving along the Llobregat River through picturesque little villages, you will arrive at the incomparable setting of the jutting peaks of the mountain of Montserrat, which rises majestically up from the plain to 4,051 feet  and has extraordinary landscapes and wonderful views. During the drive (approximately one hour), comfortably seated in a deluxe air-conditioned coach, your guide will entertain you with tales, history and legends of the mountain, the monastery and the shrine.

Montserrat is a mountain, a unique Natural Park, and a massive rock visible for miles, with weird shapes and rounded peaks that jut into the sky; there are paths, stairs, caves, chapels and hermitages scattered over the mountain, breathtaking landscapes and astonishing views.
Montserrat is a Benedictine monastery nearly 1000 years old, perched half way up the mountain and sheltered by its peaks. There is a basilica with the Chapel of Our Lady of Montserrat known as La Moreneta, the patron saint of Catalonia. The community of monks also runs a boys' school devoted to the study of music.

Montserrat is culture: a library of nearly 300,000 volumes; the oldest boys' choir in Europe; a basilica full of paintings, gold lamps and decorated chapels, a museum with paintings by El Greco, Picasso and Dalí among many others. On arrival to Montserrat your guide will give you a tour to orient you to the main places of interest: monastery, basilica, museum, Stations of the Cross, as well as bars, restaurants, shops and home products market.

Having heard an introduction to Montserrat from your guide, learning about its importance in past and present times, you can use your free time (2 hours) to explore independently and discover the site’s magic on your own. Then, meet back up with your guide to travel back to Barcelona by coach. The return journey will be an alternative route accompanied by recordings of a variety of traditional Catalan music.
